veteran actor Shabana Azmi Has revealed the secret of his happy marriage to the lyricist Javed Akhtar. She said that whenever there is an argument between the two, they wait to discuss it until they are in a calm state of mind.
Shabana believes that it is important to give your partner some space to breathe and also be prepared to work towards maintaining that relationship.
Speaking to the Free Press Journal, she said, “A compatible marriage is one of the most nurturing relationships. But you have to work at it. I find it strange that we’re willing to make the effort with our friends and co-workers, but Not with our partners. Why? Because we take each other for granted and don’t respect each other’s space. My idea of love is not to pat my spouse’s neck, but to let it be as it is As much as I wish he’d let me be. Luckily, because we’re both doing what we’re passionate about, we don’t demand each other’s being and being until the end.”
On how they settle their fights, she said, “One thing that has worked consistently for Javed and me is to use the two magic words, ‘Drop It’, when in the middle of a fight. Do not get angry, do not let it hang for several days and spread bad feelings around. When both are in a better mental state, take it out point by point. Anger and haste can force you to say terrible and inappropriate things that you will only regret. “
Shabana and Javed got married in 1984. They live together in Mumbai and have no children. However, Shabana is close to Javed’s children from his first marriage Honey Irani, son Farhan Akhtar and daughter Zoya Akhtar.
In a recent conversation with writer Twinkle Khanna shared on Tweak India YouTube channel, Shabana Azmi admitted that her parents were not in favor of her relationship with Javed. Shabana said, “He was a married man, he had kids, it was really tough. And so I think people shouldn’t speculate. It’s hard enough for the people involved and then only for the gossip. And Obviously, people are going to say, ‘You call yourself a feminist and then how have you gotten yourself into this position?'”
