Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha on Thursday announced his next feature film, a social drama titled Bhed, starring Rajkummar Rao in the lead.
The 56-year-old filmmaker, known for tough plays including Mulk, Article 15 and Thappad, said he always wanted to collaborate with Rao and found the right project in the crowd.
“‘Mowd’ is one of those titles, the moment you propose it the whole team jumps. Casting was important for me. Raj is a very interesting actor. He is one of the few actors who can tell a story.” I can be transparent so successfully. I have always had a deep desire to work with him and I am looking forward to it.”
The 56-year-old director said he is thrilled to be reunited with Bhushan Kumar, who supported him 2020 movie slap. “I am honored to have a solid ally like Bhushan by my side, who is such a strong pillar and a strong sounding board,” he added.
Rao said Sinha is a filmmaker with a “distinctive voice” and he is honored to be a part of his new film.
“I am thrilled to be working with Anubhav Sinha. It is a great honor and privilege to collaborate with a filmmaker who has such a unique voice. Also, being reunited with Bhushan Kumar feels like being back on home turf after the success of Ludo last year,” said the 37-year-old actor.
As an actor, Rao said, he has always turned to stories that trigger conversations.
“Even as an entertainer, I want my work to make people think. It is an important subject and this character requires me to push myself as an artiste beyond my comfort zone. I can’t wait to start shooting and lose myself in this universe.”
Kumar said he has a long association with Sinha since 2001’s Tum Bin and feels proud to be working with the filmmaker once again.
“Every outing together is even more exciting than the last one. Thappad is a film that I am incredibly proud of and I can’t wait for the crowds to start. It is one of the deeply stimulating stories of the experience and me Very proud to join hands with them again on this.
“Raj is a great actor and I can’t think of anyone better than me to do a film like this,” he added.
Bhed is likely to go on floors in November and will be shot across Lucknow.
The film will be jointly produced by Kumar’s T-Series and Sinha’s Banaras MediaWorks.
Apart from this film, Sinha’s upcoming directorial venture Anek, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, is currently in post-production.
