Former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson on Wednesday praised and mentored Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant ahead of Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. “My advice to Rishabh Pant is to play with freedom, have an air of arrogance and confidence – that he does when he is at his best in that last match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), with those one-arms. Sixes,” Watson said.
“He’s absolutely insane, the skills he has, and to me, the advice would be to go out and build that confidence. Don’t let the circumstances, the leadership, determine how you play. You go out and Play with freedom – take the game forward,” he said.
Watson called Pant a “match winner” and said that he can snatch any match from the opposition.
“If you think you can line up a bowler, you are completely committed to it and take him – because he is a match-winner. He can take the game away from the opposition very quickly – And everybody wants to see that, the team wants to see him and as a leader he wants to see that too.”
The 40-year-old also praised the top batting order of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
“KKR really turned things around as Shubman Gill and Iyer (Venkatesh) have started batting and really starting to take the game. You can see a big change from the first phase of IPL in India to the one in UAE.” Watson.
“The intensity they showed from the first ball was very clear and they have been able to take advantage of it in the first six overs and because Tripathi (Rahul) has been so good especially in the middle overs, that it has set a stage for KKR. has been installed. To turn things around,” he said.
KKR and DC will take on each other on Wednesday for a place in the final of IPL 2021 against CSK.
