Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) registered a difficult 3-wicket win against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Sharjah on Wednesday to reach the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Chasing a small score of 136, Eoin Morgan & Co. After a great start, there was a terrible fall in the middle order. However, after a brief tussle with DC, the Knight Riders emerged victorious.
KKR’s chase began in a scintillating fashion as they scored more than half a run before the 15th over. But in the death overs, their middle order began to falter and lost six wickets in four overs. With 6 needed to win off the last two balls, Rahul Tripathi caught Ashwin in six overs at long-off and Kolkata took the game home with a ball to spare.
The KKR players, looking very nervous as the wickets fell, jumped with joy and took to the field to celebrate the victory. One of them was opener Venkatesh Iyer who stoned Tripathi to give him a hug.
Explaining the entire scenario to KKR mentor David Hussey in a chat, Iyer said, “Fifty celebrations, I don’t celebrate much. My methods are different and the job was to score more runs and take the team forward. So, it’s just a thumbs up and get back to work again. But I really celebrated when Tripathi hit that six because we were in dire need of that big hit. I couldn’t control my emotions and ran away with my sandal and hugged it.”

“I wasn’t chasing 136, I just went there and wanted to bat. I wanted to play six overs and then see what the situation was. He brought out the best of the idea and hopefully I will keep moving forward,” Iyer further added.
After the last-ball finish, KKR made their way to the third final in IPL history. They will face Chennai Super Kings in Dubai on Friday.
