1, 0, W, W, 6: Watch Ashwin’s final over in Qualifier 2 against KKR that kept all cricket fans on edge

DC were certainly expected to qualify for the final but Tripathi’s six was the final nail in the coffin. Delhi had lost and KKR will now take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final on Friday in Dubai.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s last over against Kolkata Knight Riders delivered an optimal dose of thrill during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 Qualifier 2 in Sharjah on Wednesday. The Delhi Capitals (DC) off-spinner did a remarkable job with the ball but unfortunately, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) snatched the ticket to the final by riding on Rahul Tripathi for a six off the final ball.

Chasing an easy target of 136 runs, KKR’s team won. The in-form pair of Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer put on a 96-run partnership to keep the momentum going in Kolkata’s favour. However, the Rishabh Pant-led side jolted Kolkata after the 16th over with a sudden quick wicket. KKR were reduced to 129 for 5 by the end of the 19th over, from 123 for 1 at a time.

Kolkata needed 7 runs in the last over and Ashwin came into the attack. Rahul Tripathi takes a single off the first ball and strikes Shakib Al Hasan. The DC off-spinner intensified the game by bowling a dot ball and trapped the Bangladesh all-rounder in front.

Sunil Narine was the next man and since KKR were a big shot away from victory, it was expected that the Caribbean star would hit his side. But the thrill did not end as Ashwin got Narine caught at long off. With 6 runs needed from the last two balls, Kolkata got seven wickets for 130 runs.

Tripathi came back into the strike while Ashwin had a chance to take a hat-trick. The off-spinner bowled a flat delivery and KKR No 4 smoked it at long off to end the intense chase in style. Eoin Morgan & Co had reached the finals while the DC dugouts were in despair.
